Bio
Pianist, Doctor of Musical Arts, Pedagogue
Tomasz Marut is one of the most promising young Polish pianists, admired for his musical sensitivity, pianistic craftsmanship, and refined sound culture. He graduated with distinction from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music, where he studied piano under Professor Paweł Zawadzki. As the first person in the history of the institution, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, with his dissertation receiving special distinction. He currently serves as an assistant professor at his alma mater, where he leads a piano class.
Tomasz Marut is a laureate of numerous prestigious national and international piano competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein in Memoriam International Piano Competition, the Concours International de Piano “Ville de Gagny”, the Juliusz Zarębski International Music Competition, the International Piano Competition in Augustów, and the National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.
He was also a semifinalist at the Concurso Internacional de Piano Compositores de España and the James Mottram International Piano Competition. In 2021, he represented Poland at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition.
Most recently, he became the winner of the 26th International Piano Competition Piano FVG 2026, receiving both the special “Premio 900” award for the best performance of a contemporary work and the Central European Initiative Prize.
In recognition of his artistic achievements, he has been awarded numerous scholarships and distinctions, including the Scholarship of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Rector’s Scholarship of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, the Piotr Kler Foundation Scholarship, and the Scholarship of the Mayor of Wrocław.
His dynamic concert career includes solo recitals as well as performances with orchestras in Poland and abroad, including Germany, France, Austria, Ukraine, Croatia, and the United Arab Emirates. He has performed under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Marek Pijarowski, Mario Venzago, Przemysław Neumann, Roman Rewakowicz, and Maciej Tomasiewicz.
He has also appeared at many renowned music festivals, including Chopin and His Europe, the Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Festival, Festival Chopin à Paris, Festival Chopin au Jardin, the Festival of Polish Pianists, and the International Festival “Music at J. I. Schnabel’s”.
The artist has made numerous radio and television recordings, including Robert Schumann’s Toccata in C major, Op. 7 for Polish Radio Program 2. His discography includes two albums featuring works by Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Franz Schubert, released by the Ferenc Liszt Society in 2021 and 2022.
A new album featuring works by Lowell Liebermann is scheduled for release in 2026.
